Les, just wanted to drop a quick note, which you can use on the website if you wanted. I've been driving 'solo' for 4 months now since I passed with you, due to work, alot of motorway stuff between Manchester and Liverpool and Northwales. I often find myself thinking back to the lessons when I'm driving as your advice was so good. I'm not sure if I could have gone solo so early if it wasn't for your teaching. Many thanks for the lessons - there were some bad times, and some good times, but you really helped me when I even doubted myself. Hope things are well with you, I keep any eye for a black 207 (?) when I'm in Radcliffe. Many thanks again, you gave me the skills to get mobile!

What do most people fail on test?
That`s easy. INEXPERIENCE. A lot of people go for their test when they really are not ready. Whether it is with an instructor, or out with family or friends, building up your experience will give you the highest chance of passing your test. You can find out the top 10 reasons why people fail by visiting the DSA website at http://www.dsa.gov.uk.

Which licence do I need to start?
Before you can take to the road, you must have received from the Driving Vehicle Licence Agency (DVLA) a valid licence. If you are applying for your first licence, you will need to complete application forms D1 and D750. These are available form any Post Office. Should you require any help in filling these out, the leaflet D100 gives you more information.

The DVLA now only issue photo card licences so whether you are applying for you first licence, renewing or exchanging your old one, don't forget to send the best passport size photo of yourself!

How long will it take to get my licence?
You should receive your licence within 3 weeks. There are two parts to the licence- a photo card "Identity Details" only part, and its paper counterpart showing endorsements and entitlements. These are valid until your are 70.

I will be taking my motorbike test, soon. Will I need to exchange my licence?
Whether or not you have passed your motorbike test, your first licence, will automatically entitle you to drive cars (accompanied of course). Take care though that this is a motorbike test and not a moped test! If you have been riding a moped, it may be worthwhile checking your entitlements.

My sister says I will never be able to drive as I wear glasses?
As long as you can read a number plate (with or without glasses or corrective lenses) from 67 feet /20.5 meters, your are quite within your rights of driving a car.

Can I start driving before taking my theory test?
You can start to learn to drive before passing your Theory Test but you cannot apply for your Practical Test until you have a valid Theory Test certificate.

My mate says I can be on the road at 16 years old. Is this true?
Yes you can start to drive a car at 16, but only if you are in receipt of the higher rate of disability living allowance. If not, then it is 17 years of age. Of course you can still be on the road at 16 if you want to ride a moped.

Will I need only 15 or 20 lesson as my dad says it will be the same amount as he took?
The number of lesson is completely dependant on the individual's ability. No two people are alike and everyone learns at different rates. Take your time to learn and avoid adding extra pressure. Remember your dad has a lot of driving experience that has changed with the times. I am sure he will agree that driving on the road today is different than when he first took his test. The Driving Standards Agency recommend around 45 hours of Professional Tuition.
